DAY 1:
Kumarakom
Arrival
at Cochin. Transfer to a beautiful backwater
resort in Kumarakom. The village of Kumarakom – a
paradise of mangrove forests, green paddy
fields and coconut groves interspersed with
enchanting waterways and canals with white
lilies; is a cluster of little islands on
the Vembanad Lake. Experience an Ayurvedic
massage (optional) or a sunset cruise (optional)
offered by the Resort. Overnight stay at
Kumarakom.
DAY 2: Houseboat (Kumarakom ~ Kumarakom)
After breakfast, proceed to board the houseboat.
The Kettuvallam or ‘boat with knots’- was so called because the entire
boat was held together with coir knots only - not even a single nail
is used during the construction. The boat is made of planks of jack-wood
joined together with coir. The facilities on board include trained crew
with hotel like ambience. The houseboats, plied by local oarsmen, are
simply furnished with a living room, bedroom with attached bath and
a raised central deck for lazing on cushions while watching the world
go by. Check into the houseboat, on the way watch typical Kerala villages,
Coir making, Paddy fields etc. Enjoy the serene backwaters viewing the
activities in the local villages on either side of the canals. Dinner
and overnight stay.
DAY 3: Kovalam
Mornings after breakfast alights from the houseboat and proceed to Kovalam, 16 km south of Thiruvananthapuram. Kovalam, one of the loveliest beaches of India, is an internationally renowned beach destination with three adjacent crescent beaches. A favorite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s, Kovalam has miles of golden sand segmented into four sheltered, palm-fringed coves by rocky promontories. Check into the hotel, freshen up. Evening free to relax at beach. Overnight stay at Kovalam.
DAY 4: Kovalam
Spend another day at the resort. Day free at leisure/sightseeing of Trivandrum city. Dinner and overnight stay at Kovalam.
DAY 5: Departure
Drop to Trivandrum airport for your onward destination.
